About

Anne Lister Beats turns Anne Lister's journals into original songs, visuals and SongWorlds.

The project begins with Anne Lister’s language: the pressure inside a phrase, the pull of place, the force of desire and the historical context around each journal moment. Those layers shape the music, images and interpretation.

SongWorlds

Selected songs open into deeper SongWorld pages with lyrics, audio, source context and visual material. Each SongWorld is a way to follow a journal moment as it moves into song.

This is the beginning of the method, not the whole of it; the fuller ALB approach will unfold here as more songs, sources and SongWorlds are built.

Anne Lister Beats is a music-led way into Anne Lister’s world, built from journal, song and image.

Behind the Project

Anne Lister Beats is created by Catherine Moran, who writes the lyrics, shapes the concepts and develops the visual storytelling and SongWorlds from Anne Lister’s journals. The songs are made through an AI-assisted music process, guided by Catherine’s lyrics, song shaping, style choices, editing and interpretation.
